How do I book, and how much does it cost?

Patients with episodic illnesses can book through the Family Medicine Clinic telephone appointment system, the eHealth mobile app, or the ‘Book FMC’ function in the ‘HA Go’ mobile app (announced by the Hospital Authority on 29 September 2026); since 15 August 2026, telephone bookings are accepted only from calls with a caller ID number displayed. Follow-up visits for patients with chronic conditions are arranged by the clinic according to clinical need.

New patients (people registering with the Hospital Authority or using its services for the first time) must first register in person at any Family Medicine Clinic, bringing their original identity document, before they can use telephone booking; clinics have help desks for people who have difficulty using telephone booking (Hospital Authority, July 2026).

From 1 January 2026, Eligible Persons pay HK$150 per consultation at Family Medicine Clinics, and HK$5 per drug item (charged in units of 4 weeks, except self-financed drugs).

The Hospital Authority's General Out-patient Clinics and Community Health Centres were renamed Family Medicine Clinics and Family Medicine Integrated Centres respectively from 11 October 2025; the existing services are not affected.

What if I cannot find a public clinic in the evening or on a holiday?

For private doctors, Book a Doctor lists, from doctors' and clinics' published weekly hours, 501 family doctors and GPs open on Sunday and 573 with evening sessions (until 8 pm or later); to find a private GP by district, see the General Practice list (1,632, as of 25 October 2026); the lists are in order of district and English name, not of preference (this page is compiled by this site).

Doctors who have joined the Primary Care Directory can be searched by district, practice type (for example private) and consultation day and time (for example Sunday or evening); ask the clinic directly about fees. In an emergency, go straight to an Accident and Emergency Department or call 999.
