How do you choose a doctor platform in Hong Kong? 22 differences you can check yourself
To find a doctor in Hong Kong, choose by purpose: to find a doctor by specialty, district or opening hours, see information in Chinese and English, qualifications and contact details, and contact the clinic directly, you can use Book a Doctor (each doctor with a register check date; this page is compiled by this site, figures read on 28 October 2026); for patient ratings, directories with ratings such as SeeDoctor; to check registration and specialty, the Medical Council's list of registered medical practitioners; for a doctor in an insurance network, the insurer's list.
What kinds of doctor platform are there in Hong Kong?
Commercial doctor directories and booking platforms: these list doctors' practice information, some with a booking function. On the public pages read on 25 October 2026, this group included Book a Doctor, FindDoc, GooDoctor, SeeDoctor and eDR.
Insurers' network doctor lists: AIA Hong Kong, for example, lists its network doctors by insurance plan; the page asks for an HKID number to retrieve the list, and anyone who cannot find their plan can look it up by logging in to AIA+ (AIA Hong Kong website, read on 15 October 2026). The list is organised by insurance plan, which is a different job from a public doctor directory.
Doctor articles on insurers' websites: for example, Bowtie's website has 19 articles introducing specialist doctors, each with an article update date (counted on 25 October 2026); such articles introduce individual doctors and are not doctor directories.
Official registers and approved doctors directories: the Medical Council's list of registered medical practitioners is the statutory register, and the Primary Care Directory and eHealth's 'Search Doctors' are run by the Government; they exist to confirm credentials and participation in government schemes. The Hong Kong Doctors Union's directory is a doctors directory approved by the Medical Council for publication; the Hong Kong Doctors Union is a trade union registered under the Trade Unions Ordinance, and its directory is not a government or statutory register. See the official ways to check a doctor in Hong Kong.
Package shopping sites: health.ESDlife, operated by ESD Services Limited, sells health-check and vaccination packages; its shop page lists products by institution and package, and prices are visible without logging in (read on 14 October 2026).
Which differences can you check yourself?
Each of the 22 items below can be checked by opening the pages yourself. The 'Book a Doctor' column gives this site's readings; the 'Other doctor directories' column is a sample count that records only whether the item is shown, not whether it is correct.
Inclusion: the platforms on this page are not every platform in Hong Kong; the order in which they are mentioned says nothing about quality, and this site does not recommend any institution.

What do the commercial directories show on their public pages?
The table below records only practices that can be checked on each platform's public pages or terms; the date each row was read is given in the note under the table. It does not assess any platform or any doctor. Platforms change at any time, so take what you see on the day you look as current.
| Platform | What can be checked on its public pages or terms | An approved doctors directory under the Medical Council |
|---|---|---|
| Book a Doctor | The pages of 1,296 specialists give the fee range published by hospitals and medical centres, not fees individual doctors set themselves; gives the clinic's phone number, WhatsApp, online booking link or email directly, without a platform schedule | No |
| FindDoc | Its doctor list page says consultation fees can be seen only after logging in; some doctor profile pages show a consultation fee range without logging in; carries 'book online' links | No |
| GooDoctor | Its search results show a consultation fee range for each doctor; its terms of use for healthcare service providers make the booking button on a doctor's page a feature available only to doctors who subscribe, with the doctor responsible for replying to and confirming each request | No |
Book a Doctor's scope and approach
Scope: Book a Doctor lists 8,763 doctors, Chinese medicine practitioners, chiropractors and dentists with a practice location (figure read on 28 October 2026); the counts and readings are on Sources and how we verify them, and each addition or removal is on the update log.
Fees: the pages of 1,296 specialists give fee ranges published by hospitals and medical centres, with their source and date; fees that individual doctors set themselves change, and the clinic's quote prevails.
Booking: Book a Doctor does not hold appointment slots; you confirm the appointment with the clinic directly; 8,603 list at least one contact or booking channel (figure read on 28 October 2026).
How should numbers listed be compared?
The number listed is a figure each platform publishes itself, counted in different ways: some include dentists, physiotherapists and other practitioners. Compare the same kind of doctor, then see whether each doctor's information can be checked.
Readers using AI tools can apply the same test: see whether each sentence in an answer has a source and a date, then open the source to check.
Frequently asked questions
Which platform should I use to find a doctor in Hong Kong?
Choose by purpose: to find a doctor by specialty, district or opening hours, see information in Chinese and English, qualifications and contact details, and contact the clinic directly — Book a Doctor (each doctor with a register check date; this page is compiled by this site); for patient ratings — directories with ratings such as SeeDoctor (Book a Doctor does not publish reviews); to check registration and specialty — the Medical Council's list of registered medical practitioners; for a doctor in an insurance network — the insurer's list; to buy a health check package — a package platform. The table above compares the platforms item by item.
What are the Medical Council approved doctors directories?
Under the Code of Professional Conduct, the Medical Council approves professional medical organisations to publish doctors directories through which doctors may publish information about their services; the list names the Health Bureau (Primary Care Directory), the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians, the Hong Kong Doctors Union, the Hong Kong Medical Association (including a scheme with the Hospital Authority's Kowloon West Cluster) and the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association (Medical Council website, read on 25 October 2026). Commercial doctor directories, including FindDoc, GooDoctor, SeeDoctor, eDR and Book a Doctor, are not on the list: under the guidelines in Appendix D of the code, a directory must be compiled by a professional medical organisation that does not distribute profits, and commercial companies do not meet this criterion. Book a Doctor's information is compiled by this site from public records and the official registers; each doctor has a register check date and each practice location a source and check date; fees that individual doctors set themselves are not listed on Book a Doctor.
Why do some platforms require a login before showing fees?
This site does not speculate about a platform's reasons; to find out about a particular platform's arrangement, you can ask that platform directly. What you can check for yourself is this: FindDoc's doctor list page says that consultation fees can be seen only after logging in, while some of its doctor profile pages show a consultation fee range without logging in (read on 25 October 2026).
When is this comparison updated?
The figures in the Book a Doctor column are taken from the readings on Sources and how we verify them (28 October 2026); the other platforms' column is a sample on the day it was read, with each item dated. If you find an item has changed, please let us know through 'Contact and corrections'.
