How much do orthopaedic consultations cost at each hospital?
The table below lists the orthopaedic outpatient consultation fees published on the websites of some private hospitals and medical centres that this site reviewed; it does not cover every institution in Hong Kong. For clinics other than private hospitals, ask the clinic directly about fees.
Compiled by this site: of the 9 institutions, 4 state a follow-up fee (1 of them with the same fee for first and follow-up visits), 4 do not separate first-visit and follow-up fees, and 1 fee schedule lists only the first consultation. The highest fee published in the table is HK$3,200, the cap at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital for a first consultation extended according to the patient's condition.
How this list was put together: an institution is listed when it publishes this fee on its own website and this site has checked the figures against that fee schedule. The rows are in a fixed order, not in order of price; this site does not recommend any institution, the order says nothing about quality, and the list is not every institution in Hong Kong.

What do public clinic fees and waiting times look like?
From 1 January 2026, Eligible Persons pay HK$250 per attendance at a Hospital Authority specialist outpatient clinic and HK$20 per prescribed drug item (charged in units of 4 weeks), with separate charges for some laboratory tests and non-emergency radiology examinations.
Booking requires a referral letter issued by a locally registered doctor within the past three months, and cases are classified as urgent, semi-urgent or stable and wait accordingly.

Common misunderstandings
‘The consultation fee published online is the total cost of one visit’: not so. The published figure is generally only the doctor's consultation fee; medicines are generally charged separately, laboratory tests, examinations and minor procedures are charged by item, and some hospitals charge a facility fee.
‘The same specialty at the same hospital costs the same’: not necessarily. Some hospitals list different fees by the doctor's grade, by resident or visiting doctor, and by consultation time.
What should I ask before booking?
How much are the first visit and the follow-up? What grade is the doctor?
Does the consultation fee include medicines? How are medicines charged, and for how many days' supply?
What tests might be needed this time, and roughly how much do they cost?
Is there a facility fee or any other charge? Is it more expensive in the evening or on holidays?
Is my medical insurance accepted? Can the insurer be billed directly? Is a referral letter needed?
