How much do hospitals charge for paediatric consultations?
The table below lists the paediatric outpatient consultation fees published on the websites of some private hospitals and medical centres checked by this site, not all institutions in Hong Kong. For clinics other than private hospitals, ask the clinic directly about fees.
Compiled by this site: of the 8 institutions, 3 charge the same fee for first visits and follow-ups, 4 do not separate first-visit and follow-up fees, and 1 lists only the first consultation in its fee schedule. The highest general paediatric fee published in the table is HK$3,000, the cap for the professor grade at CUHK Medical Centre.
The table on this page shows general paediatric fees. Some paediatric subspecialty or special clinics charge more, for example the CUHK Medical Centre paediatric special clinics (cardiology, allergy and immunology, sleep disorders, breastfeeding) charge HK$1,500 to HK$3,000 for a first consultation and the genetics and genomics specialty (paediatrics) HK$3,000 to HK$5,000 for a first consultation; at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital (its own doctors only) the cap on a first consultation is HK$2,800 to HK$3,500 for endocrine, diabetes and complex paediatric conditions and HK$2,500 for paediatric respiratory conditions, and child development and assessment is HK$4,000 per hour.
How this list was put together: an institution is listed when it publishes this fee on its own website and this site has checked the figures against that fee schedule. The rows are in a fixed order, not in order of price; this site does not recommend any institution, the order says nothing about quality, and the list is not every institution in Hong Kong.

What else do I pay besides the consultation fee?
Most hospitals state that medicines are charged separately, and laboratory tests, examinations and minor operations are also charged by item. Some hospitals charge a separate facility fee, for example Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road charges an extra HK$500 every 30 minutes for consultations with doctors who are not resident at the hospital.
For a list of specialties and what a quotation covers, see Private specialist fees overview.
What are the public clinic fees and waiting times?
From 1 January 2026, Eligible Persons pay HK$250 per attendance at Hospital Authority specialist outpatient clinics and HK$20 per prescribed drug item (charged in units of 4 weeks), with separate charges for some laboratory tests and non-emergency radiology examinations.
A new-case appointment requires a referral letter issued by a locally registered doctor within the past three months, and cases are placed in the urgent, semi-urgent or stable category according to the condition.
From October 2025 to September 2026, the median waiting time for stable paediatric new cases in the Hospital Authority was 11 to 25 weeks by cluster (about 3 to 6 months).
For the figures by cluster, see public waiting times for paediatrics.
Common misunderstandings
The claim that ‘the consultation fee published online is the total cost of one visit’ is wrong: the published fee is generally only the doctor's consultation fee, medicines are generally charged separately, laboratory tests, examinations and minor operations are charged by item, and some hospitals charge a facility fee.
The claim that ‘the same specialty at the same hospital charges the same fees’ is not always true: some hospitals list different fees by the doctor's grade, resident or visiting doctor, and consultation time.
What should I ask before booking?
How much are the first visit and the follow-up? What grade is the doctor?
Does the consultation fee include medicines? How are medicines charged, and for how many days' supply?
What tests might be needed this time, and roughly how much would they cost?
Is there a facility fee or other charge? Is it more expensive in the evening or on holidays?
Is my medical insurance accepted, can the hospital bill the insurer directly, and is a referral letter needed?

Is a private paediatric follow-up cheaper than a first visit?
It depends on the hospital. Some hospitals charge the same for first visits and follow-ups, and some publish one fee only.
