How much does a CT scan cost at each hospital?
The table below lists the CT scan fees published on the websites of 13 private hospitals and medical centres in Hong Kong that this site reviewed; it does not cover every institution in Hong Kong.
Compiled by this site: the lowest fee for a plain brain scan in the table is HK$1,910 (HKBH East Kowloon Medical Centre) and the highest is HK$3,690 (Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital). Hospitals price on different bases (outpatient, standard room or a single fee), so compare using the notes.
How this list was put together: an institution is listed when it publishes this fee on its own website and this site has checked the figures against that fee schedule. The rows are in a fixed order, not in order of price; this site does not recommend any institution, the order says nothing about quality, and the list is not every institution in Hong Kong.

What does the quoted price include?
The table shows the hospitals' fees for the scan. Most hospitals list separate prices for outpatients and for each room class, and the higher the room class, the higher the charge for inpatients.
Some hospitals state that fees are adjusted for scans done outside office hours or in an emergency, and some state that medicines and related supplies are charged separately; whether the radiologist's fee is included is written differently by each hospital, so ask when booking.
What do I need to prepare before a CT scan?
St. Paul's Hospital states that patients generally need to fast for 3 hours before the scan, and that a scan generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes; Union Hospital states that patients generally need to fast for 4 hours before an abdominal scan.
St. Paul's Hospital states that patients with asthma, a past allergy to food, drugs or contrast, or suspected or confirmed pregnancy should tell the doctor or radiographer before the scan; patients taking diabetes medicine that contains metformin may need to stop it as the doctor directs.
Union Hospital asks patients aged over 65, or with kidney disease or diabetes, to provide a serum creatinine result from within the past 6 months. Requirements differ between hospitals, so follow the instructions of the hospital where you book.
How much does a CT scan cost at a public hospital?
From 1 January 2026, Eligible Persons pay per item for non-emergency radiology services at the Hospital Authority: Basic items (for example X-rays) are free, Intermediate items cost HK$250 per service and Advanced items HK$500 per service. In announcing the reform, the Hospital Authority Chief Executive explained that computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are Advanced items, that is, HK$500 each.
Ask the hospital about waiting times.
What should I ask before booking?

Is a doctor's referral letter needed? Is there a set fee for patients with a Hospital Authority referral letter?
Is contrast needed? How much does it add?
Does the fee differ for scans outside office hours or on holidays?
Can medical insurance pay the hospital directly? Is pre-approval needed?
For how to pay with medical insurance, see Seeing a private specialist with medical insurance; fees for other tests: MRI, ultrasound, PET-CT, gastroscopy, colonoscopy.
