How much do hospitals charge for PET-CT scans?
The table lists the PET-CT scan fees published on the websites of the 10 Hong Kong private hospitals and medical centres this site checked, not all institutions in Hong Kong.
Compiled by this site: the lowest whole-trunk (plain scan) fee in the table is HK$15,200 (HKBH East Kowloon Medical Centre) and the highest is HK$18,390 (Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong). Pricing bases differ between hospitals (outpatient, standard room or a single fee), so go by the notes when comparing. Fees marked ‘plain scan and contrast not distinguished’ in the table are not included in that range.
How this list was put together: an institution is listed when it publishes this fee on its own website and this site has checked the figures against that fee schedule. The rows are in a fixed order, not in order of price; this site does not recommend any institution, the order says nothing about quality, and the list is not every institution in Hong Kong.

What does a quotation include?
The table shows hospitals' fees for tests. Most hospitals list separate prices for outpatients and for each ward class, and the higher the room class for inpatients, the higher the fee.
Some hospitals state that fees for tests done outside office hours or in emergencies are adjusted separately, and some state that medicines and related supplies are charged separately; whether the radiologist's fee is included is worded differently at each hospital, so ask clearly when booking.
Whether radiopharmaceuticals are included is also worded differently at each hospital; for example, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital states that its fee already includes radiopharmaceuticals.
What should I prepare before a PET-CT?
Union Hospital states that patients must fast for 4 hours before the examination and avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks, and healthcare staff will check blood sugar; the information sheet of St. Paul's Hospital (2020 version) asks patients not to eat for 6 hours before the examination (clear water may be drunk) and not to exercise or lift heavy objects 1 day before the examination.
St. Paul's Hospital states that patients with diabetes, or who are or may be pregnant, must tell radiology staff before the examination, which takes about 2 to 3 hours; Union Hospital states that patients who are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding must tell healthcare staff before the examination. Requirements differ between hospitals; follow the instructions of the hospital where you book.
How much is a PET-CT at a public hospital?
From 1 January 2026, Eligible Persons receiving non-emergency radiology services at the Hospital Authority are charged by item: Basic items (for example X-rays) are free, Intermediate items HK$250 per item and Advanced items HK$500 per item. Ask the hospital which fee tier PET scans fall into.
For waiting times, ask the hospital.
What should I ask before booking?
Is the quotation an outpatient price or an inpatient price? Does it include the radiologist's report fee?
Is a doctor's referral letter needed? Is there a set fee for patients with a Hospital Authority referral letter?
Is contrast needed? How much extra does it cost?
Will the fee differ if the examination is done outside office hours or on holidays?
Can medical insurance pay the hospital directly? Is pre-approval needed?
For arrangements for paying with medical insurance, see using medical insurance to see a private specialist; for fees for other tests: MRI, CT, ultrasound, gastroscopy, colonoscopy.
